The installation centers around a 30-minute radio play-like audio piece which tells a fictional story—through dialogue, pop songs, sound effects, soundscapes, and found audio—of pop singer Patti Page encountering other Patti Pages as she travels around the Midwest. In 1948, Patti Page became the first person to layer their own vocals on a record with the release of her romantic duet “Confess.”

1163 Lincroft Drive: Before and After depicts objects in an Indiana home before (left) and after (right) it was staged. Home staging is a method of preparing a home for sale on the real estate market. The practice—which often involves painting walls, removing personal items, and rearranging furniture in order to anonymize a space—rose to prominence after the 2008 housing crisis. The photos in the video are cropped versions of original images provided to me by a professional home stager and real estate agent.

Land Reutilization Authority is an installation of custom-fabricated instruments and audio compositions created using materials found at vacant lots owned by St. Louis’ Land Reutilization Authority (LRA). Established in 1971 when the city was experiencing rapid depopulation—due to de jure segregation, failed civic projects, white flight and changes in industry, among other factors—the LRA is the oldest land bank in the country.

Recast is an outdoor audio installation created using materials collected from the Mississippi River—sticks, rocks, Styrofoam, the inner lining of a washed-up basketball. With a nod to the calliope music played aboard traditional riverboats, the piece offers a portrait and demonstrates the performative potential of the river and its contents.
